she escaped once, but not now. police just arrested a mom on the run with her baby. good evening, i'm jessica aguirre. >> and i'm raj mathai. it's another twist in a bizarre case. a woman who used her 10-year-old daughter in a shoplifting scheme was on the run with her infant son. within the last hour, police in nevada located marcy keyland and her son. they were found in personally. she was staying at a hotel

there. she is in custody, the baby is with child protective services. police have been looking for her since wednesday when she was accused of using her 10-year-old daughter to steal groceries. last night her mother told us she suffers from manic-depression. she has made suicidal statements. officers plan to extradite her back to the bay area. that could take as many as ten days. a novado community came out to support the family of the 12-year-old girl killed yesterday as she rode her bike home from school. they had just recently moved to california. that didn't stop neighbors and parents from mourning her death tonight. cheryl, every parent can

understand what they're feeling right now. >> yes, they can. the street where the accident happened in novado is a busy one. and police don't know exactly what happened. what we do know tonight is that the loss of the 12-year-old girl is insurmountable for this tight knit community. many of the people who attended friday's vigil didn't know 12-year-old hayley ratliff or her family, but they came to san marin high school to celebrate her young life. >> every parent that i've seen in the neighborhood, as i drive by. we all have the same look. >> the look of sadness and despa despair. ok kayly's family was there in tears. the community is one family embracing another family in pain. >> this family moved here from new mexico less than a month

ago. don't know anybody, they're here on their own. they came out for a job, a relocation. and all these people, the entire community is supporting them. >> reporter: the support comes one day after little kaylee was killed in an accident. she was struck by an suv while riding her bike home from school. she was rushed to a local hospital and airlifted to children's hospital, where she died. police say the driver of the suv is cooperating with police. >> i got a 4-year-old here, and if it ever happened to me, i would be devastated. i wouldn't know how to react, i wouldn't know what to do. >> classmates and strangers laid candles, and flowers at the accident site. >> you hear of an accident, you feel sad for the person, the family, the friends. it's just sad. >> all my kids walked home from school. i never really thought about it, let's crosswalk the better. this is a devastating thing for everybody here in novado.

>> white balloons were released at the end of tonight's vigil. again, the cause of the accident is under investigation. live in marin county, cheryl hurd, nbc bay area news. >> so sad, thank you, cheryl. frustration in san francisco during the massive critical mass ride. for most it was a smooth ride. what started out in 1992 as a protest for bikers rights has turned into a global cause. tonight a birthday ride for the movement and a milestone for one rider who was there when it started. kimberly terry takes us down memory lane with one rider. >> this is where it all started. this is where we met that man. where we'll meet him a little later on. many of the bikers returned here later on. this is a small group that was left. there were 2,000 people out here earlier today. and the movement was literally

moved, took to the streets at times. snarling traffic, according to police, there were no problems. >> coming back to experience perhaps my last critical mass. >> reporter: 80-year-old derek was part of the critical mass movement when it started 20 years ago. >> i've just come back to reminisce, see how it's doing, the bicycling situation has gotten so much better in san francisco thanks to the san francisco bicycle coalition and all the great work they do. >> the ride started in 1992, to protest against dependence on cars and fossil fuels. some of them got rowdy. bikers remember some in the group were intent on annoying drivers. >> it was started by a political statement by a lot of bikers who wanted to -- who felt the need to get in your face and make a statement. it was out of a sense of need. and a lot of progress has been made since then thanks to that.

>> reporter: in the last two decades the critical mass movement has spread to hundreds of cities worldwide and even inspired change. >> it doesn't get any more -- i think it's a better way to live. >> in san francisco alone, bicycling has grown from 2006 to 2011. according to the city's municipal transit agency. learning to share the road is a work in progress. it has gotten better in recent years. >> i think everybody should have a turn at both. because then they could understand the mind-set of each and be a little more polite to each other. >> reporter: he's proud of how far the movement has come. now, while this may well be his last critical mass ride, he says he won't stop biking any time soon. >> trying to stay healthy. and i absolutely love to get out in the fresh air and bicycle. it's always a thrilling thing,

and it makes you young again. >> police did have extra patrols out here, including officers on bikes. i just touched base with san francisco police who say traffic was at times tied up by critical mass. it all went smoothly. no arrests, no major problems. kimberly terry, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, kimberly. they will continue to meet every month. the albany schoolteacher accused of molesting a former student has not been charged. the investigation of james izamuzaki is ongoing. we caught up with him this morning, but he declined to comment. he's expected to appear in court until october 24th. he remains out on bail and offcampus. he was a teacher and coach at albany middle school. she's furious, so she's turning to face back. a man beat her autistic brother at a bart station. and she's mad that he's not facing any assault charges. the attack happened in july.

the man punched her 15-year-old brother in the face. this is a photo of trevor after he was hit. police arrested the alleged attacker, but now his only charge is possession of marijuana. west is upset with that decision. and has launched her own facebook page called justice for trevor. here comes the president, and here comes the music. president obama is returning to the bay area, this time it won't be your typical fund-raiser, it's a concert with the 49ers twist. performing for the president and his supporters will be musician john legend and michael franti. among the speakers will be 49ers quarterback alex smith. the fund-raiser is october 8th at bill graham civic auditorium. tickets range from $100 to $20,000 per person. coming up, hackers demanding rans ransom. >> a screen flashed up with a warning that says you have no

many people say apple's new map technology is lost. tim cook says the company is extremely sorry for the frustration in its new map app, the frustration it's caused for so many people. last week apple released an update to its iphone and ipad operating system, replacing google maps with apple's own version. users aren't pleased. the new maps have fewer details, lack public transit directions and misplace landmarks. while apple fixes the problem they recommend you download competing maps to find your way. google maps is taking you underwater. can you preview scenes from the deep on your computer. here's a diver swimming smoothly through the great barrier reef. his camera snapping thousands of pictures. >> you can look all over the

place and really just experience it for yourself. >> the google street team has mapped six underwater spots. so far you can expect more in the future. has it happened to you yet? you turn on your computer and then you notice something that says your computer has been frozen because of chirn porn and unless you pay up you will be prosecuted. it's called ransom wear and hackers are making a fortune off of it. >> how it works and how you can keep your computer from being hijacked. >> think of it as the modern day ransom note. hackers get into your computer change your passwords and you don't get access back until you pay. it's not the grind they're used to at demo sport in san rafael.

>> reporter: is it profitable? >> they can make as much as 50,000 or $60,000 a day just by hitting a couple keys. >> reporter: often the ransom note looks like an official notice from the fbi, accusing you of a crime. >> you have inappropriate content you have stolen content, you have child porn on your machine, that scares people, even if they've never done it. still that the fbi has said we found child porn, that scares people to their very core. >> that's why they pay up? >> yes. >> you should never pay a ransom, even if you do regain access to your computer, the hackers have probably dropped other viruss on to your system. rans ransomware has grown so quickly, the fbi just posted a warning on its internet crimes website. >> it's getting very tedious, and you estimate you've lost business as a result? >> yes, i've been up late just trying to solve the problem. >> with more than 4,000 products in his store.

live hd network. we are fogged in right now. that's really what helps us from not warming up too much for today. we think again, the fog will be clearing out as we head throughout our weekend forecast. let's get you back to the weather boards. what you're going to find is the low pressure developing in from the south. that's going to bring us more milder weather. high pressure building in across a lot of the west. that's what's going to get us temperatures in the 90s for those interior valleys. especially by sunday and monday. as we head throughout the south bay, the air quality is continuing to suffer. we're going to go like this, 86 in san jose. 83 in milpedes. back across the trivalley, mid tauper 80s in the castro valley, 93 in pleasanton. 91 in danville. the weekend's almost here, the temperatures are going to warm

an update on our breaking story. the mother wanted in market hill has been arrested in nevada. police arrested her, and martha

francis just spoke to sheriff's deputies. >> reporter: marcy keelan is in custody. her baby is safe tonight. she was taken into custody in personally, nevada. where sheriff's deputyies found her with her baby. she is accused of using her daughter to shoplift from a grocery store. keelan was wanted on a $50,000 warrant on charges of burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. >> she answered the door and was taken into custody without incident. the 11-month-old baby boy is absolutely fine. >> police tell us keelan is being booked into jail in nevada and she will be extradited back here to the bay area. in morgan hill, monty francis, nbc bay area news. >> monty, thank you.

we've been following breaking news tonight, a mother on the run is now under arrest. police located marcy keelan. she is in custody. the baby, however, is with child protective services in nevada. police in morgan hill have been looking for keelan since wednesday, when she's accused of using her 10-year-old daughter to try to steal a cart of groceries from the safeway store. investigators feared the baby was in danger because they fear she had been making suicidal statements. you can get the latest on this story on our website. the other two children are in protective services here in california, and keelan will be extradited within the next couple days from nevada to california. it's going to be smoking hot. >> as we head to around sunday
